What Nobody Told you about Solo Trips

HEY LOVES!!! It has been a minute. Forgive me. I was in recession mode. I think I just sound like other bloggers who write good content then disappear then come back with reasons of why and why they did not write and why they are back to it. Let me save you all the ba bla blas and get back to business.

Early last year, I took a solo trip to Coast. Yes, to the coast. A graduation gift to me by me. It wasn’t an abrupt decision but a planned decision. (Check out my post on how to plan a solo trip post).

Here is a list of what nobody told you about solo trips

1. You are going to have an amazing time

You will have a quiet time for reflection, rewinding and self love away from the busy city life or work life. You are going to discover who you are and not what you thought you are. Your skin will glow because of happiness and self-love you will experience.

2. You will meet new people

Lifestyle bloggers will never tell you that you will meet new people. Some of them will turn out to be acquaintances, long-term friends and others will instill values and lessons to carry on to the next generation.

On my last trip, I met a Nigerian in a matatu who plays for a local Kenyan team and sells some Nigerian Fabrics. I met an Old Mzee at the beach and we talked about life and what it offers. I met a Maasai who was kind enough to look after my stuff as I took a deep dive into the Indian Ocean.

3. You will discover new places

Forget about the pictures you see in your Instagram feed, you will feel and experience the real deal. Some of the places will be a gem a place you will call your haven. Places you will want to visit again and again.

Moorings Restaurant was the best place so far during my trip. The floating restaurant brought a sense of tranquility and it gave an awesome view of the Mtwapa creek and at the far end, you could see the Mtwapa bridge.

4. It is not that safe

The thought of taking a solo trip can be scary and sometimes dangerous especially if you are a lady. Bloodcurdling stories have been told on how women have escaped thirsty men. However, if you are planning a solo trip consider safe places.

5. You can survive on a minimum budget

Making a budget is part of your planning process. Accommodation, transport, and food are your priority.

Do you have anybody to accommodate you? If not, look for a place that fits your budget. Homestays, Hostels and Air B n B can be your cheaper options.

What are the available means available? Do their prices vary? Some means of transports allow room for a bargain—I bet travel bloggers won’t tell you this. When you are making your budget put transport money aside that will cater to your movement around your vacation.

Are you minimalist? If yes, forget about the food hotels and get to the streets where you will find cheaper food and better ones. Get to taste the different cuisines offered in the streets. I hope you will not regret it.

6. You might get Conned

Getting conned in a new place is not a new thing. Lifestyle bloggers and travel bloggers in one way or another they have experienced it and you are not an exception. Some people will lie to you that they are tour guides, others will hike their prices and others will rob or give you wrong directions. To be safe research on the area you are visiting, prices on items, transport prices, and accommodation prices. You might also want a recommended tour guide.

That’s it for today,

Happiness and light,

Ckenna
